I got this top coat with my first nailsupplies.us order early this fall. I was searching for a fast-dry top coat, because the ones available in my country are slow drying and not very bump resistant. I knew I didn’t want to get Seche Vite because I’ve heard many people complain about it getting thick in time. Plus the fact that it’s not 3-free doesn’t particularly please me either. I had heard about Out the Door from some other blogs and I know some people swear by this stuff so I decided to get it.
First of all, let me state that this is a thin top coat. If you are looking for something that can smooth out a glitter, you’re probably in the wrong place. I really like the fact that it’s thin and goes on so smoothly on the nails, without the danger of getting bubbles.
Ingredients: Ethyl Acetate, SD Alcohol 40B (Alcohol denat.), Butyl Acetate, Cellulose Acetate Butyrate, Acrylates Copolimer, Trimethyl Pentanyl Dissobutyrate, Sucrose Benzoate, Triphenyl Phosphate, Nitrocelluloss, Isopropyl Alcohol, Benzphenone-1, Dimethyl Polysiloxane, Violet 2 (CI 60725), Blue 1 (CI 42090).
The bottle states that this top coat dries in seconds. And let me tell you, it’s very true! It takes less than one minute for the polish to be dry to the touch. It also makes it thoroughly dry in minutes. If you want to use it over nail art, you have to wait for a bit so the polishes dry. After that, it won’t smudge your designs. Once it’s dry, it will make your nails very shiny. They won’t get dull in a few days and there won’t be many scratches and bumps on your nails like with other top coats.
I did a little experiment for you guys using Out the Door and Kallos 3in1 Shine base coat/top coat. I used Out the Door on my middle finger (on the left) and Kallos on my index finger (on the right). You can see the scratches on the index nail versus the perfect glass surface on the nail where Out the Door was used. This might not be visible in the photo, but the nail on the left is much more shiny while the nail on the right kinda has a dull finish.

I personally love this top coat and would repurchase it anytime. The price is also very convenient on this one. I think it will remain my go to top coat for a long time.
How is the smell of this one?Is it strong?I am using SV and the strong smell gives me headache and makes me cough !!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Out the Door as well. I was a fan of SV, but I'm trying to stick with 3-free as well. I've found Out the Door to be really quick drying and it leaves a great finish.
ReplyDeleteaww OKOK Im decided to get one !!!!>:]
ReplyDelete@Boarbb It doesn't have a strong smell because it doesn't have toluene and that's what gives the smell.
ReplyDelete@Let's Get Nailed I love the finish of OtD as well! I find myself rubbing my nails all the time and it's so smooth and glossy.
Hihi,
ReplyDeleteMine arrived and I tried it today!!I have a question:P Do you wait until the nail polish is all dried to apply top coat?or will top coat dry the nail polish for you?Cuz I put one top coat on a (more than half dried) nail polish and after a while like 4-5mins, the top coat is still wet..umm I wonder if the coat I put was too thick@@
:3 xoxo
OMG! Your package arrived today! It was such a surprise because I didn't know what I was receiving and from whom. You were so sweet to send me the polishes! I really love both of them! This was such a great present. I don't know how to thank you!<3
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, I use the top coat on pretty wet nails too. There were some polishes that didn't dry so fast and I had to apply the top coat to dry them up faster. It's very easy to put a thick coat on because it's thinner than other top coats. It took me a bit of time to learn how to wipe the brush in order to not have so much on it. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much again!xx <3
oo thank youu, I will try it again!!But I like it already!!I can barely smell the normal nail polish smell!!!Its really good!!=]
ReplyDeleteawww I am sooo happy you finally received the package>//<!!!heheeee and you love them..I am so happy kekekee*w*
Does this wear well, is it chip resistant? 5-6 days, hopefully? :)
ReplyDeleteAnd did it ever shrink your polish? I've read that some fast dry top coats may do that. I read your blog constantly and I hope you still have the same great opinion about this product after using it for some months, because it sounds amazing and I plan on buying it as soon as possible.
Well it's really hard to answer your question. The top coat thickened after I used about half the bottle. I'm not sure if it was my fault or not. It was used also by my sister and I noticed that she didn't close the cap as tight as I did. Other than that, it holds up well and gives a beautiful glass-like finish. I'm pretty sure I had less chipping back when I used it. I really don't know about the thickening though. I haven't seen anyone complain about it with this top coat. Same thing happened to me with China Glaze Fast Forward. Maybe it is my fault.
Deletehi! love your review about this topcoat and is definitely making me want to get one for myself as well! may i know if this product shrinks or smudges? because i do nail art.. and im using sally hansen mega shine at the moment and it shrinks horribly!
ReplyDeleteI didn't experience any shrinking with this top coat. It doesn't smudge either. Maybe only if there's very little on the brush and you push it on the nail. But if you polish gently it doesn't. The only problem I experienced was that it got thick after a while. Not sure if it was my fault. Maybe I didn't close it properly. I recently got Seche Vite and this one gets thick as well. But since it already has toluene I can add thinner to it. Maybe OTD could be thinned with non-toluene thinner too.
ReplyDeleteI bought this too, but I don't like it as much as I like Seche Vite, it leaves streaks on the nail polish and shrinks it too, so I am going back to my Seche Vite
ReplyDeleteis this top coat 3 free too?
