ELF Smoky Brown

Hello my lovelies! Oh Monday, how I hate you! I've started a new rotation today at the hospital and so far it's nothing I've expected. This may prove to be another busy and stressful quarter. I was actually expecting a lot of free time, but it seems I won't be as lucky. I guess I have to wait for the holidays to get a bit of rest.

Today, I have another ELF polish for you, Smoky Brown. It is a taupe creme that looks a tad brown in certain lights. It is claimed to be an OPI You don't know Jacques dupe, but I don't own that color. I've seen some comparisons on the internet and they seem pretty close. Let's take a look!

ELF Smoky Brown, indoors, artificial light
This polish has a pretty squishy texture and is opaque in two coats. I've stated before that I'm not a fan of the brush because of its unevenness. The polish dries to a very glossy finish. Now, the first time I used this polish I also used a new top coat from Kallos for the first time. I took a shower about two hours after I applied it and it just came off. The layers were dry to the touch but were not adherent to the nail. I didn't know if it was the polish or the top coat or the hot shower's fault. I tried it again a week after and I didn't have any issues with it, using Out the Door top coat.

Like pretty much all the ELF polishes I tested so far (except Desert Haze), this wore poorly. On the second day it already had signs of tip wear and when the first chip appeared, off it came.

This is a nice color to wear if you are looking for a neutral manicure. Easy to apply and a nice color. But don't expect to wear it for too many days. All in all, I'm not sorry I purchased this one because it's not a color I'd wear often so I wouldn't invest a ton in such colors. It also works pretty well for stamping and I'll show you that in one of my next posts. Until then, have a great week!

  3. @Esther I find it a tad too warm of a color even for me. Would be interesting to see it on you though.x

@Exah It truly looks more coffee than taupe in these pictures. And that's how it looks in most lights too. I'm still not decided if I should call it a taupe or not.
