Monday Blues: Revlon Blue Lagoon

Hello loves! It's Monday again. I have no idea where the weekend went because it went terribly fast. Today's post is about a Revlon beauty that's meant to make you forget about September. The name of it is strategically chosen for that. So let me take you to the lagoon!

My story with this polish started a couple of months ago. I saw it in a shop and was instantly amazed by the beauty of the silver flakes in the bottle. Sadly, Revlon polishes are kinda expensive here, namely around 10-11 $. But I just couldn't resist and less than a week later I went back and got it. This was back when my nails were very very short from a bad break. I immediately put it on but didn't like my pictures, so I decided to swatch it again some other time. Which brings us to the present date.

Blue Lagoon is a light sky blue polish with tiny silver flecks in it. The flecks are very evident in the bottle and you can still see them on the nail pretty well, especially in the sun. That's what makes this polish so special and sets it apart from other sky blues.

Regarding formula, I must say that this polish is very controversial. I've checked a few blogs and some complain of it being thick, some of it being thin, while others (like ALU) say it has a good formula. Well I wasn't that lucky. Mine is on the very thin side. I didn't like the brush either because I found it quite uneven. I did 3 coats and the result was kinda streaky. But the biggest problem is that because of the flecks, the finish is grainy since the polish is so thin. Top coat is mandatory to level it out. It actually reminds me of the formula of Essie To Buy Or Not To Buy with a little more pigmentation. The difference is that while I'm not willing to accept such issues with a lilac polish, I can do it for a blue. It's just too beautiful!

  2. I really love this color, but I was always scared of the formula issues I've heard about. I'm glad to read positive reviews! I might breakdown and get it.

  4. you know I had a similar story with this one! I saw it in a store and was mesmerized by how awesome it looked in the bottle. I picked it up (it was on sale) but the formula was so AWFUL that I just absolutely cannot deal with it!! I mean it was worse than awful!! streaky, no matter how long I waited between the coats... And you know I love blue!!! It's in my sales bin right now, for only $1.50!! It pains me to even look at it!!! =)

  6. Well it really depends on your luck. For me the formula is totally worth it for this color.

  7. I know what you mean. Revlon is very expensive here too. I usually don't buy any but I couldn't resist this time.

  8. So sorry to hear that! Mine is streaky too but Seche Vite pretty much solves it. I don't know why the formula varies so much with these. Michelle from ALU wrote that hers had a perfect formula. Revlon really disappoints sometimes.

  9. They are similar but not dupes. Cinderella has a pink shimmer (or flecks, I'm not sure) in it and is a bit more grey. I don't have the SC but this is what I figured out from the comparisons others did. I'm glad I have this because I don't have access to SC over here.

  11. I really like power blues but everyone looks horrible on me - my hands/feet turn white and red - looks almost as bad as when I try to wear yellow polish.

  12. Oh that's too bad. This one is totally wearable in my opinion because of the shimmer.
