TPA Group Challenge: Color Blocking

Hello my lovelies! It's finally Saturday. Boy was this week long! The theme for this week's TPA challenge is color blocking. I have to admit that I almost didn't take part in this one because I didn't have time to do the manicure and had no inspiration at first. But then I stayed up later last night and managed to do something last minute. I tend to do awful work under pressure, so I apologize if the result is a little weird. Here we go!

The combo of red and blue is one of my favorites. I did a color block mani a couple of years ago featuring these two colors (well with a bright coral instead of the red) and it was kind of a fail because the colors were rather transparent (post here). I decided to repeat the same color scheme and went with a mixed texture look. I also added some striping tape because I felt like something was missing.

I started with a base of my lovely Nails Inc Baker Street that went on flawlessly in two coats. I then added a coat of Seche Vite to make it dry faster and waited a while before adding the tape to mask the lower half of the nail. On the upper half I painted some Kiko 453 Cherry Red from the Sugar Mat collection. This went on a little sheer because it didn't adhere very well to the shiny surface. I did my best to get it opaque and removed the tape while it was still wet. I then waited for it to dry a bit and added the black striping tape. This tape didn't stay on very well because it wasn't secured with top coat but I still loved how it looked.

So what do you think? Would you wear this look? I personally think it's very edgy with the finish and color mix. To see some more amazing color block manicures make sure you check out these links:
